2000 — 2009
Close enough to touch, far enough to miss. That is the trouble with this chapter — it does not feel like history yet, and it is.
Things started arriving faster than they wore out, and for a while I mistook that for abundance. It took most of the decade to work out what it actually was.

Very good. A little pilling under the arms, otherwise sound.

So I went the other way. Fewer things, older things, and a rule that nothing came home with me unless I could imagine still reaching for it in ten years.
It does not feel like history yet, and it is.
Most of what I own from this decade I bought secondhand at the time, which means it was already carrying somebody else before it started carrying me.
It is the nearest chapter and the hardest one to write, because I have not finished having the feelings about it yet.
Give it another ten years. Then it will read like the rest of them.
