If nobody really owns anything, then what passes between us is custody rather than property. These are the terms of that — written down not because we distrust anyone, but because a thing that moves between hands deserves a record of where it has been.
Draft — not a legal agreement
The clauses below describe the intended model in plain language. They have not been drafted or reviewed as an enforceable licence, and nothing here should be relied on as terms until a solicitor has written the real agreement.

Owner listing
Keepers can opt in to be named on the site for the stretch of a piece's life that belongs to them. Opting out keeps that stretch anonymous, which is also a way of being part of it.

Resale
When a piece has finished its time with you, it moves on through the Aletross marketplace, and the record of its keeping moves with it.

Pricing
The market sets the resale price. Aletross does not buy pieces back; it brokers the resale and takes a share of the sale.

Breaking the licence
A piece can always be passed on privately. It simply leaves the record when it does, and becomes an ordinary old shirt with a good story nobody can any longer follow.

Authentication
A piece is authenticated by its own marking and by the story already claimed for it on the timeline.

Keeper photos
Buyers have 7 days after purchase to send in a photo of themselves wearing the piece, for inclusion on the site. Subject to editorial approval. Miss the window and it does not make the book.
